Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid’s marquee signing, was absent from the squad for their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group H match against Pachuca, as he continues to recover from a recent bout of gastroenteritis. The French superstar also missed Madrid’s opening fixture against Al Hilal and remains under medical supervision.
🏥 Mbappé’s Health Update
Mbappé was hospitalized in Miami on June 18 after experiencing symptoms including vomiting, high fever, and dehydration. Though discharged the following day, he has not yet rejoined full training and stayed back at the team hotel instead of traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Pachuca clash.
“He feels better. It will be difficult for him to return for Sunday’s game, but we hope he can return against Salzburg,” said manager Xabi Alonso, offering a hopeful timeline for Mbappé’s return.
⚽ Real Madrid’s Lineup Without Mbappé
With Mbappé sidelined, Alonso opted for Arda Güler to replace Rodrygo in the starting XI, joining Vinícius Jr. and Gonzalo García in attack. The midfield trio of Tchouaméni, Valverde, and Bellingham remained unchanged, while Thibaut Courtois continued in goal.
🧭 When Will Mbappé Return?
Real Madrid’s final group-stage match is scheduled against Red Bull Salzburg on June 27, and the club is optimistic that Mbappé could feature in that game or be preserved for the knockout stages, depending on his recovery and the team’s qualification status.
