Prashant Singh: From Delivery Boy to Rugby’s ‘Superman’ in India’s Premier League Rise

Prashant Singh, once a cricketer and delivery agent from Mumbai’s Navy Nagar, has emerged as one of Indian rugby’s most inspiring figures—earning nicknames like ‘Superman, Spiderman, and Krish’ for his electrifying runs and athleticism in the Rugby Premier League (RPL).

From Cricket Fields to Rugby Glory

Prashant’s journey began with a love for cricket, particularly fielding, but a chance encounter with rugby—watching his elder brother play—sparked a new obsession. Despite family resistance and financial struggles, he pursued the sport relentlessly, even quitting after Class 10 due to pressure, only to return stronger years later.

Struggles Off the Field

Before making his mark in rugby, Prashant juggled jobs as a food delivery agent, bank salesman, and gym instructor to support his family during the COVID-19 crisis. His father’s newspaper business collapsed, and his elder brother gave up rugby to shoulder household responsibilities.

Breakthrough with Bengaluru Bravehearts

Now a key player for Bengaluru Bravehearts, Prashant recently earned his first Man of the Match award for his defensive brilliance, tallying 11 tackles in the RPL. He plays as a utility flanker in XVs and a hybrid in 7s, showcasing versatility and grit.

Earning Respect and Recognition

Prashant’s turning point came when he won ₹5 lakh cash prizes as a silver medallist in three consecutive National Games. His family, once skeptical, was stunned when the money hit his account. “That day was very emotional,” he recalled, emphasizing how financial support brought respect to his sporting dreams.

Fitness Freak with a Record-Breaking Bronco

Proud of his Bronco time—rugby’s version of the yo-yo test—Prashant clocked 4 minutes 38 seconds, possibly the best in India. He idolizes international stars like Akuila Rokolisoa and thrives alongside global talent in the RPL.

“Till there is no respect, there is really no value of sport. Supporting family financially is the biggest pressure and greatest joy,” says Prashant.
