The final round of group-stage matches at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 delivered high-stakes drama as Inter Milan, CF Monterrey, and Borussia Dortmund secured their places in the Round of 16, each with decisive victories that reshaped the knockout bracket.
Inter Milan Outclass River Plate to Top Group E
Inter Milan clinched a 2-0 win over River Plate in Seattle, capitalizing on a double red card blow to the Argentine side. After Lucas Martinez Quarta was sent off for a last-man foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 19-year-old Francesco Pio Esposito broke the deadlock with a composed finish. Alessandro Bastoni sealed the win with a surging solo goal, while Gonzalo Montiel received a second yellow late in the game.
Inter will now face Fluminense in the Round of 16 in Charlotte.
Monterrey Crush Urawa Reds to Advance
Monterrey delivered a dominant 4-0 performance against Urawa Red Diamonds at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. A 10-minute goal blitz in the first half saw Nelson Deossa, Germán Berterame (brace), and Jesús Corona find the net. The win propelled Monterrey to second place in Group E behind Inter.
They will now face Borussia Dortmund in Atlanta.
Dortmund Edge Ulsan HD in Scrappy Win
Borussia Dortmund secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ulsan HD FC at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. The lone goal came from Daniel Svensson, assisted by Jobe Bellingham, as Dortmund dominated possession and chances but were repeatedly denied by Ulsan’s resilient goalkeeper Jo Hyeonwoo.
Dortmund topped Group F and will meet Monterrey in the next round.
