FIH Pro League: Indian Women Eye Redemption Against China After String of Defeats

With their backs against the wall, the Indian women’s hockey team is set to face China in a crucial final fixture of the FIH Pro League 2024–25 season, hoping to salvage pride after a disappointing European leg. Led by Salima Tete, India will look to bounce back from a 0–3 defeat to China on Saturday that confirmed their relegation to the FIH Nations Cup for the next season.

🏑 Redemption on the Line

India, currently ninth in the standings with 10 points from 15 matches, cannot escape the bottom spot even with a win in their final game. However, the team is determined to end their campaign on a high note.

“This Pro League outing has been a learning experience… but for now our focus is on doing well against China,” said captain Salima Tete.

India had previously beaten China 3–0 in the pool stage and 1–0 in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024, but the Pro League has exposed persistent issues in penalty corner conversion, defensive lapses, and finishing under pressure.

📉 Relegation Confirmed After Seventh Straight Loss

Saturday’s defeat marked India’s seventh consecutive loss in the European leg. Goals from Chen Yang (21’), Zhang Ying (26’), and Anhul Yu (45’) sealed the win for China. Despite early circle penetrations and a missed penalty stroke by Deepika, India failed to capitalize on key moments.
