Olympians Anish Bhanwala and Sift Kaur Samra delivered standout performances at the National Shooting Selection Trials (T3) held at the Trishul Shooting Range, Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, reaffirming their status as top contenders for India’s international shooting squad.
Anish Bhanwala Clinches 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Title
In the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, Anish Bhanwala topped both qualification and finals. He scored 582 in qualification (Stage 1: 293, Stage 2: 289) and followed it up with a final score of 33, outpacing Adarsh Singh (29) and Pradeep Singh Shekhawat (23).
Sift Kaur Samra Shines in 50m Rifle 3 Positions
Fresh off her bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Sift Kaur Samra dominated the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions final with a score of 467.3, finishing 10.4 points ahead of Aakriti Dahiya (456.9). Ashi Chouksey, who led the qualification with 592, secured third place with 443.9.
Umamahesh Maddineni Upsets Big Names in 10m Air Rifle
In the men’s 10m air rifle, junior world champion Umamahesh Maddineni edged out World Cup gold medallist Rudrankksh Patil with a final score of 252.2 to 251.5. Divyansh Panwar took third with 230.1. The qualification round saw a tight contest, with Shourya Saini and Divyansh both scoring 632.9, but Saini led on inner 10s.
Road to Asian Championships and ISSF World Cup
These trials are pivotal in shaping India’s squad for the 16th Asian Shooting Championships in Kazakhstan (August) and the ISSF World Cup in Ningbo, China (September). The next round of trials will feature events in 10m air rifle, 25m pistol, and 50m rifle 3P across men’s and women’s categories.
