Arshad Nadeem Eyes World Championship Glory in Tokyo After Asian Gold

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has set his sights firmly on the World Athletics Championships 2025, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from September 13 to 21. After a selective competition season and a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship, the javelin star is now focused on peaking at the global stage.

“My Focus Is on Tokyo”: Nadeem’s Roadmap

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Nadeem said,

“My focus is on the World Athletics Championships and I am working hard for that. It is very hot in Lahore. I am going to England soon and will be training there for a month”.

The 28-year-old, who made history by winning Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a record-breaking 92.97m throw, has been training selectively this season to manage his workload and avoid injuries.

Upcoming Competitions and Training Plans

According to his coach Salman Iqbal Butt, Arshad will participate in two to three events before Tokyo, including the Diamond League meet in Poland. He is also expected to compete in a Swiss athletics meet and undergo a month-long training camp in England.

“We are working on correcting technical flaws from the Asian Championship and ensuring he’s in peak form for Tokyo,” said Butt.

A Rivalry Rekindled: Nadeem vs Neeraj

The Tokyo showdown is expected to reignite the much-anticipated rivalry between Arshad and India’s Neeraj Chopra, who recently won the Ostrava Golden Spike and Paris Diamond League titles. The two did not face each other in recent events, but both are on track for a dramatic face-off in Tokyo.

A Message of Hope

Nadeem, who was recently named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 South Asia list, continues to inspire young athletes across the region.

“I came from a small place and won a gold medal. If you work hard, you too can win medals,” he said during a World Olympic Day event in Lahore.
