Coco Gauff returned to competitive tennis in winning fashion on Saturday, overcoming a tough challenge from Camila Osorio at the China Open. The American star battled through three sets to secure a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2 victory in the second round.

Returning to the Court After New York

This match marked Gauff’s first appearance since her impressive run to the US Open semifinals. Stepping back onto the hard courts required immediate focus as she faced a determined opponent in Osorio, who tested the reigning champion’s stamina and tactical approach throughout the encounter.

A Hard-Fought Opening Set

The contest began with intense baseline rallies and closely contested games. Both players traded breaks and struggled to establish dominance early on. Gauff eventually found her rhythm during the tiebreak, using her signature athleticism and aggressive court coverage to edge out the first set 7-6 with a 7-4 tiebreak score.

Osorio Fights Back in the Second

Undeterred by dropping the opener, Osorio elevated her level of play in the second set. She utilized clever angles and minimized her unforced errors, putting pressure on Gauff’s service games. Capitalizing on critical opportunities, Osorio broke through to claim the second set 6-4, forcing a decisive third set.

Securing the Win in the Decider

Gauff regrouped effectively before the start of the final set. She heightened the intensity of her groundstrokes and limited defensive lapses, taking control of the baseline rallies. The tactical adjustment paid off as Gauff pulled away, winning the final set 6-2 to seal the match and book her place in the next round.

Looking Ahead at the China Open

Advancing to the third round in Beijing gives Gauff vital momentum as the late-season tennis calendar continues. Her ability to navigate a challenging three-set test demonstrates her resilience and readiness for tougher competition ahead in the tournament.
