India U23 Football Team Held to Goalless Draw by Kyrgyz Republic in International Friendly

The Indian U23 football team played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the Kyrgyz Republic U23 in an international friendly at the Hisor Central Stadium on Saturday. The match was part of India’s ongoing preparations for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers and the 2026 Asian Games.

🔄 Tactical Changes and Defensive Solidity

Head coach Naushad Moosa made eight changes to the starting XI from the previous 2-3 loss to Tajikistan, retaining only defenders Pramveer, Bikash Yumnam, and Abhishek Singh Tekcham. Despite the reshuffle, the Blue Colts showed improved organization and resilience, especially in the second half.

“We’re building depth and testing combinations. The boys showed character,” said Moosa post-match.

⚽ Missed Chances and Standout Performers

India created several scoring opportunities:

  • Parthib Sundar Gogoi forced two saves in the first half, including a powerful shot in the 38th minute and a low free-kick that tested Kyrgyz keeper Chomoev Sultan.
  • Pramveer missed a golden chance just before halftime, heading over from close range.
  • In the second half, Suhail Ahmad Bhat had a goal ruled out for offside, while Macarton Louis Nickson and Chingangbam Shivaldo came close to breaking the deadlock.

Goalkeeper Sahil made a crucial late save to deny Toktonaliev Nursultan, preserving the clean sheet.

🧭 Road Ahead for the Blue Colts

The draw concludes India’s two-match tour of Tajikistan, where they registered one loss and one draw. The friendlies offered valuable match experience and tactical insights ahead of the AFC U23 qualifiers in September.
