Raducanu’s Wimbledon 2025 in Doubt After Emotional Win and Injury Concerns

British tennis star Emma Raducanu faces fresh uncertainty ahead of Wimbledon 2025 after revealing she received “pretty bad news” before her opening-round win at the Eastbourne Open. The 2021 US Open champion broke down in tears following her comeback victory over Ann Li, raising concerns about her physical and emotional readiness for the grass-court Grand Slam.

Tearful Triumph at Eastbourne

Raducanu battled through a sluggish start and visible discomfort to defeat Li 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-1, but her post-match emotions stole the spotlight.

“I received some pretty bad news, so I would like to keep it personal,” she told reporters. “It was difficult and very emotional at the end.”

Her subdued demeanor and limited movement during the match hinted at deeper struggles, both physical and personal.

Back Injury Still a Major Hurdle

Raducanu’s recurring back injury, which forced her to withdraw from the Berlin Open, continues to cast a shadow over her Wimbledon campaign. Despite intensive rehab and treatment, she admitted, “I’m still managing it… I have good days and bad days”.

The injury not only disrupted her grass-court preparations but also cost her a seeded spot at Wimbledon, increasing the risk of facing top-ranked opponents early in the draw.

Wimbledon Hopes Hang in the Balance

Currently ranked No. 37, Raducanu is expected to face Maya Joint in the second round at Eastbourne. A deep run could boost her confidence, but her fitness remains fragile, and her emotional state suggests she’s carrying more than just physical pain.

With Wimbledon just days away, fans and pundits alike are watching closely to see if Raducanu can overcome the odds and mount a meaningful challenge at her home Slam.
