Tanvi Sharma, Ayush Shetty Storm into US Open Badminton 2025 Semifinals


Rising Indian shuttlers Tanvi Sharma and Ayush Shetty continued their stellar run at the US Open Badminton 2025, advancing to the semifinals of the BWF Super 300 tournament with commanding straight-game victories in their respective quarterfinal matches.

🏸 Tanvi Sharma Reaches Maiden Super 300 Semifinal

The 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma, ranked World No. 66, delivered a clinical performance against Malaysia’s Karupathevan Letshanaa (World No. 50), winning 21-13, 21-16 in just 33 minutes. This marks her first-ever semifinal appearance at a BWF World Tour Super 300 event.

Tanvi will now face Polina Buhrova of Ukraine, who caused a major upset by defeating third seed Sung Shuo-yun of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

🔥 Ayush Shetty Defeats Junior World Champion

In the men’s singles, Ayush Shetty (World No. 34) stunned Kuo Kuan Lin of Chinese Taipei, the reigning junior world champion, with a dominant 22-20, 21-9 win. The 19-year-old Indian showcased composure and tactical brilliance, especially in the first game where he rallied from 16-19 down to clinch it in a tiebreaker.

Ayush will now face a tough semifinal clash against top seed Chou Tien-chen, who had previously defeated him at the Taipei Open. This marks Ayush’s third semifinal appearance of the 2025 season, following strong performances at the Orleans Masters and Taipei Open.

🇮🇳 Mixed Fortunes for Indian Contingent

While Tanvi and Ayush kept India’s hopes alive, the men’s doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing 9-21, 19-21 to the Chinese Taipei duo of Chiang Chien-Wei and Wu Hsuan-yi.
